Unboxed, Not Just a Phone.

After so long

I saw a child in him

The patience

The eagerness

The curiosity

The thirst to learn

Something new

Without any hesitation.

Mom gifted

My father

A phone.

His old one was broken

Yet he managed to use

It for call purposes

So for last few days

No IPL

No news

No updates

We used to lend ours

But not daily.

So he would come

Home

Tired

Energy drained

And would watch the last over of IPL

And would watch news for 5 mins

And sleep.

So mom decided to buy a new one.

Since it was online

He counted days

Waiting for it daily

Like a school kid

Waiting for the last exam to get over

so he could enjoy holidays.

That's how he was.

Very eagerly asking mom

When will it come?

And yesterday the new one reached us

Like a kid

When we were gifted

Something.

I remember

It was a dressing table

I remember

I was overwhelmed

Couldn't concentrate in class

The whole time I was laughing

Jumping out of excitement

Kept imagining how it would be

Came home

Riding my bicycle fast

Taking shortcuts

Reaching home

Very early

than usual

The moment I saw it

I couldn't express it all

For the next 1 year

It was my friend.

A lot of moments like this

Grateful for those.

I saw myself in him

I saw a child in him

I realised how adulting

Erased these moments

Forcing us to be rigid

But now he is an adult

Rather than calling it a child feeling

Why not call it an adult feeling itself?

Why put it under childhood?

Since it wasn't normalised

It felt different

Forgetting that

joy and curiosity

don't have an expiration date.

When dad came home

From office

Early, directly going to the phone

Happiness pouring out

Opened the box

Stayed awake till 1 am

Set all the options

Doing a video call at 1:30 am ๐Ÿ˜‚

To check camera quality

Clicking photos

Of our sleepy faces

Learnt each and every detail

Without hesitation

Without sleeping

Which he usually does

Never can he control his sleep

But his curiosity

And joy of

having bought something new

Made him loud

Joyful.

Realising every heart

Wants these surprises

Every heart still thrives

For such moments

Still loves to experience

New things.

And I realised

Those

Tired legs

Running without any break

Red-rimmed eyes

Blinking restlessly

Rough hands

Holding unspoken emotions inside

Do need some love

Do need some attention

Do need some time to rest

Do need some people with patience to teach

Do need these moments....
