Her Tiny Joys
Moms
had made it
look easy—
to sacrifice,
to find happiness
through her
children,
to place them first
before her own wishes,
and somehow feel fulfilled
Satisfied
through their experiences,
even when
they had nothing
to do with her.
But when it's us,
even the bare minimum
we make
We feel like an extra effort.
We neglect.
We ignore.
We prioritize
ourselves over them.
It could be
something simple
a small request,
an evening out,
taking your mother
to a theatre
to watch a film
she has been asking
to see for weeks.
After all,
she is willing to pay.
She only wants
your company.
Yet we hesitate.
We procrastinate.
We come up with silly reasons
not to go.
Because we fail to notice.
Fail to recognize
how easily
she says 'YES'
when we ask
for the very same things.
How quietly
she makes space
for our joys,
while we overlook
and take for granted
her
tiny joys.
Perhaps
the realization
arrives late.
However,
this realization
would somehow
prevent future
ignorance,
I hope.
I believe.
