Say and Do

Say and Do,

Not only the spelling of these two words differs,

But the meanings do too.

Only One in a million

Doesn’t know the difference,

Whereas others,

The whole population —

Know what the word “Say” denotes

And what the word “Do” denotes.

Yet we just pretend,

As if we are great actors.

It begins in childhood,

Gets worse in adulthood,

And in old age,

A few realise and succeed,

Whereas others regret

And find it difficult to cope.

It all starts with small promises.

We used to say,

“I promise you, Mom,”

But with the left hand,

Or

By twisting the middle and

Index fingers,

So that those words are just words, not action.

So Say & Do isn’t a new thing for us.

It grows

As a habit,

Or develops as

A trait itself.

It should be pruned like a weed in a plant,

But instead, pesticide is sprayed,

And we fail to remember that

Any day it's unhealthy.

Adulthood worsens it.

Food, fashion, fitness, studies, and life choices —

Everything makes a cameo.

At times, I wonder,

Are we really being actors?

We say something,

But on stage, we are not just improvising,

But entirely doing something new.

Is it called Versatility?

In Theatre, it is,

But not in Life.

We say we will eat badham,

And end up eating badham halwa.

We say we will sleep early,

And end up sleeping at early morning.

We say we will do yoga,

And end up doing long nap savasana.

We say we will maintain a schedule,

And end up planning to fail.

We say we'll complete a task before the deadline,

And end up pleading the teacher for an extension.

We say we care for our parents,

But end up caring for unknown people on social media.

We say we'll work hard to achieve our goal,

And end up wasting time, forgetting our goals even.

It's not

Unintentional,

Unconscious,

But

A deliberate act

Out of laziness,

procrastination, and carelessness.

But it's never too late.

It's better to begin than to never begin at all.

No more

Confusion or pretension over these two words.

Let's be clear:

Doing is better than saying.

Acting is better than thinking.

It's time to remove the mask.
